The rear facade now defines the house, standing like an abstract sculpture in the middle of a row of houses a hundred years old.  Traditional building materials and techniques are juxtaposed against contemporary ones. Old brick from the original rear facade was reused for the central pier. On either side, huge sheets of glass - floor to ceiling windows, going up four stories - are set into a stucco clad framework that grips them in place.
