Upon removing a “modernization” installed 35+ years earlier, the architects discovered the remarkable cast plaster ceiling still largely intact.  A series of arches were introduced to conceal various irregularities, and give order to the space.  The focal point of this now grand entrance is a concrete gargoyle, rescued from the cornice of the building during masonry repairs.  The doorman’s uniform and desk were also designed by the architect.
