During reconstruction, all surfaces of the entrance foyer were stripped. Fortunately, the principal components of the original construction - walls of heavy plaster on lathe rising from a solid concrete foundation - are naturally water resistant, allowing all of them to be saved. Wood doors and trim, however, required replacement.
